Early Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that your child should have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this age, permanent molars and incisors are erupting, so it is a great time for Dr. Legler to evaluate your child. He can observe the growth in length and width of their jaw as well as the space requirements needed for their arriving adult teeth. Another important reason to bring your child in for early evaluation is to address habits such as thumb sucking or tongue thrusting .

Bringing your child in for early evaluation doesn't necessarily mean they will be ready for braces. We will take pictures and digital x rays on this first visit for our records. If treatment is not necessary at this time, they will come back for yearly recall visits to monitor their growth and need for braces.

We encourage all of our patients, whether they are wearing braces yet or not, to join our Surf Club. The Surf Club is an interactive section of our website where your child can play games and enter our Legler Orthodontics monthly contests.
